The mission of this program is to develop and optimize sustainable breeding strategies for plants and animals. We develop methods and tools for predicting the effects of alternative breeding plans, e.g. genetic gains and risks, and determining breeding goals, but also evaluate and preserve genetic diversity in breeding and conservation programs. Our aim is to accelerate genetic gain and maintain genetic variation in key traits related to sustainable farming encompassing economic efficiency but also societal demands such as animal welfare and environmental impacts. We apply our software and knowledge in research, teaching and consultancy.
