The main research areas and projects of the team:
- Develop a computer program (Adam) that models complex selective-breeding schemes for animals and plants using stochastic simulation. The program can simulate a variety of population structures, genetic models, reproductive systems, selection strategies and mating/crossing design. The program can be used to evaluate breeding schemes and generate a genetic tool to test statistic tools.
- Develop a tool (Evolutionary Algorithms; EVA) for monitoring inbreeding and using optimum contribution selection in populations for the long-term success of both animal and plant breeding programs.
