New postdoc - portrait

Minhui Chen is returning to QGG for a one year postdoc project

What is your area of research and what will you be doing here?

My research area is population genetics. I used to be a PhD student in QGG, and completed my PhD defense last November. My PhD project mainly focused on the detection of selection signatures in the genomes of pigs and cattle. Domestic animals have been subject to both natural and artificial selection. These kinds of selection affect the patterns of genomic variation, such as allele frequencies and haplotype structures, that is the so-called selection signatures. My studies detected selection signatures in the genomes of domestic animals, in order to discover genes and variants related to economic traits.

My new project will continue in this direction. The ideas are that integrating selection signatures and population structures along with genome-wide association study and genomic selection allow us to improve the process of animal breeding.

Please tell us a bit about yourself, your family and where you come from. Why did you choose to come to Denmark and work at QGG?

I come here with my wife. Both of us come from China. As I mentioned above, I had been a PhD student in QGG for 20 months. I like the working environment here and want to continue my study.
