Work packages

A work package is a way of structuring a large project. Each work package can be defined as a sub-project with subsidiary goals, which typically have a deadline. In this way, the project is ensured progress and timely implementation.

Work Package 1 Development

Data Collection

The aim of this work package is to develop the industry's largest, genetic database, called PorganiX-BZ, that will allow performing the genetic evaluation in Research Work Package 1. This work package will also constitute the foundation for the creation of organic production schemes in Research Work Package 2.

Work Package 1 Research

Genetic Evaluation

The aim of this work package is to develop genomic prediction models and methods to utilise phenotypic and genotypic information from the PorganiX-BZ database to rank animals based on their genetic merits, and thereby improve the genetic progress towards organic objectives.

Work Package 2 Research

Production Schemes

This work package aims at formulating an organic production index and designing schemes to optimise the location of resources, and increase the genetic progress towards organic production objectives through better selection of breeding sows, boars for artificial insemination, and crossbred commercial replacement gilts.

Work Package 2 Development

Evaluation and Dissemination

The aim of this work package is to evaluate and disseminate PorganiX' results to the project's industry partners, Bovbjerg Økologi and Hestbjerg Økologi, who will implement the results and methods. Subsequently, the results will be disseminated to the entire organic sector and the free range producers, both nationally and internationally.

As part of this work package, a cost-benefit analysis will be calculated, so organic farmers can see the pros and cons by using the project's results and methods.
